Lenny

Stevie performing Lenny on the now famous Lenny guitar. I bought this guitar at a pawn shop on Jefferson Blvd. in Oak Cliff(Dallas) in 1980 for $375. It sold a few years back at Eric Clapton’s benefit auction for $585K. It is a 1964 modified finish Fender Stratocaster. Seen here with original neck. A year or 2 later, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top gave Stevie an after market maple neck which Stevie put on. When Fender replicated the guitar recently in limited number they made it with maple neck. This rare shot was taken at Al’s Bamboo Room in the Oak Lawn section of Dallas. Stevie only played the song Lenny during encores and always sitting down.

Numero Uno

Stevie’s infamous #1. Reproduced by Fender in replica form after Stevie’s death. I was in the process of changing the strings, which I did before every performance, and snapped a quick pic.   He typically used 13-15-18-28-38-and58(sometimes 60) gauge strings and always tuned down 1/2 step to E flat.  This night was at Al’s Bamboo Room in Dallas,  Texas.  The guitar case shown here is the one that accompanied the famous “Lenny” that sold at Eric Clapton’s auction a few years back in Dallas.
